While the song is not a new one, it’s definitely hitting home.
The title track off his 2008 album, “Stella’s Kids” touches a sensitive nerve when you watch reggae performing artiste’s Causion’s video.

Wanting to continue the awareness to the travesty that hit Haiti, Causion released his Stella’s Kids video two weeks ago, which has been getting a lot of airplay on Youtube.

With shadowed effects and heart gripping still shots of people and children injured during the earthquake, the video has already inspired many people to give donations to assist Haiti.

As founder of the Wadadli Music Festival, with its trademark “bring a can and come” admission, Causion explains that in creating this video he believes that “in some way shape and form we all have to do our part when these types of things happen. It’s a traumatic feeling when you watch that stuff on TV ... seeing all that unfold in front of your eyes ... you’ve got to stop and think about yourself, your family, your friends ... If that was you in that position, what would you want, what would you want other people to do to help you?”

In his decision to use Stella’s Kids, Causion noted that the song complimented the tragedy, and “draws awareness to the situation that we’re faced with now ... which is how can we help and encourage others to become more aware as to what these people are going through ... and sympathise with them.”

Recognising that we in the Caribbean are prone to hurricanes every year, “we (in Antigua) should be grateful that we’ve missed the last few years ... but we also need to become more serious and ... realise that man has no control over nature.

Causion shared that he has “a lot of Haitian friends who have lost a lot, some of which have lost family members, others still have family missing, some lost property over there. Some of them even showed me some pictures there ... of houses they grew up in and they’re flat on the ground now.”

The reggae artiste added, “When you stay from here and hear about a tsunami wiping out some place on the other part of the world, you can’t relate emotionally ... but with Haiti, ... it hits home as to how much their misfortune could have been our own.”

With the video being distributed to various TV stations in the Caribbean and the US, including ABS, Karib Cable, Carib Vision and Comcast, Causion hopes that the message will cause people to not only become aware of the tragedy, but also reflect more on their own lives.

“As Antiguans we shouldn’t be taking anything for granted ... a lot of people go through life, thinking this can never happen to them ... and there it is comes knocking on your door.
"We tend to neglect a lot of things around us on a daily basis ... even how the earth operates ... we’re really not in control of what is going on around us and at some point in time we need to be aware of that.”

With planning already in place for this year’s Wadadli Music Festival, Causion is hoping to have the Red Cross more actively involved and present on the day of the show, slated for 24 April in Falmouth.

Again encouraging people to make donations to Haiti, Causion recommended the Red Cross as being the best option, as you know the money will reach. “I mean, they’ve been there since the onset, on the ground, working 24/7 around the clock to help people.”

While Causion and his team continue to work on the Wadadli Music Fest, where proceeds are shared between the Amazing Grace Foundation, the Sunshine Home for Girls and the Boys Training School, he leaves this message with his fans and readers:

“Live a little better and love a little better and deal with each other on a different level. When people woke up in Haiti that day, no one imagined that that would have happened.”
