Six people were rushed by ambulance to Mount St. John’s Medical Centre (MSJMC) yesterday afternoon with various injuries, following two vehicular accidents on the Friars Hill Road.
Among them were three members of the Hurst family.

This Toyota Rav 4 jeep R 268 driven by 36-year-old Patrick Martin of Union Road, collided with the white Suzuki Jeep A 33821 driven by 61-year-old Ivy Hurst of Friars Hill Road. Ivy Hurst and her two nephews, who were passengers, were rushed to MSJMC. It was determined that no serious injuries occurred, but up to press time the boys were being observed by doctors. (SUNphoto by Skip Lewis)The accident took place in the vicinity of C.U Development Ltd., and involved a silver Toyota Rav 4 jeep R 268 driven by 36-year-old Patrick Martin of Union Road, while the white Suzuki Jeep A 33821 was driven by 61-year-old Ivy Hurst of Friars Hill Road.

It is alleged that the vehicle which Martin was driving was heading in a southerly direction. The driver claimed he dropped into a pot hole and lost control of his vehicle, which collided with the jeep Hurst was driving in the opposition direction.

Ivy Hurst, the sister of former diplomat Lionel Max Hurst was taking two of his three children, 17-year-old Adrian Hurst and nine-year-old Andre Hurst to their home in Crosbies when the vehicle turned turtle following the impact.

Seventeen-year-old Adrian Hurst is being taken on a stretcher to an ambulance before being rushed to the Mount St. John Medical Centre (MSJMC). It was feared that the youngster might have had some form of spinal injury after being involved in an accident yesterday but has been given the all clear by doctors. (SUNphoto by “Skip†Lewis)The three were pulled from the jeep and taken to MSJMC by EMS, while Martin and his passengers Katy Hopsy of Union Road and Dezna Bryan were also taken away for medical treatment.

Adrian and Andre Hurst reportedly escaped injuries, but their aunt Ivy suffered a broken left wrist. The driver and male passenger of the second vehicle were also unhurt, but the female occupant was injured, the extent of which is unknown.

Family and friends of the Hurst family rushed to the hospital yesterday after hearing about the accident. Their fears were allayed though when it was determined that no serious injuries had occurred. The young boys were up to last evening being observed by doctors. Their mother who was off island at the time of the accident was expected to return last evening to be close to her children.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident.

New Zealand woman sells souls to highest bidder

WELLINGTON, New Zealand (AP) -- The rare spirits that went under the gavel at a recent online auction in New Zealand weren't aged brandies or hard-to-find liqueurs.

Instead, two glass vials purportedly containing the ghosts of two dead people sold for $2,830 New Zealand dollars ($1,983) at an auction that ended Monday night.

The "ghosts" were put up for bidding by Avie Woodbury from the southern city of Christchurch. She said they were captured in her house and stored in glass vials with stoppers and dipped in holy water, which she says "dulls the spirits' energy."

She said they were the spirits of an old man who lived in the house during the 1920s, and a powerful, disruptive little girl who turned up after a session with a spirit-calling Ouija board. Since an exorcism at the property last July led to their capture, there has been no further spooky activity in the house, she said.

The auction attracted more than 214,000 page views and dozens of questions before the winning bid, Trademe auction site spokesman Paul Ford said Tuesday. The name of the winning bidder was not released.

Woodbury said that once an "exorcist's fee" has been deducted, the proceeds of the spirit sale will go to the animal welfare group the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
