Trevor Jacobs Jr. is expected to appear before a magistrate this morning to answer to gun possession related charges. Jacobs Jr., who turned himself in to the police last Friday morning was arrested and charged later that same evening. It is alleged that the 20-year-old was spotted by the police in Clarkes Hill on 29 Jan., and after he saw them, he ran. Further allegations are that the police subsequently retrieved 12-gauge shotgun, which the young man allegedly had in his possession. It is unlikely that Jacobs Jr. will be granted bail as a magistrate has no jurisdiction to grant bail for offences of this nature. He would have to apply in the High Court before a judge unless he pleads guilty to the charge. A wanted bulletin was later issued for his capture, but Jacobs Jr. turned himself into the police in the company of his lawyer Vere Bird Jr. and his mother Jacintha Lewis-Dixon. Inspector of Police Everton Jeffers, who is attached to the Strategic Communications Department (Stratcom), told the AntiguaSun that other charges are likely to be laid against the young man. The police believe that Jacobs Jr. can assist them with information pertaining to a recent robbery. “The police are still investigating him (Jacobs Jr.) for other stuff. Further charges are likely to be laid, but how soon, I can’t say,” Jeffers said. |
